Hi! Wow, if you’ve made it this far, congratulations!
So why am I doing this?
Well, I’m really tired of the extremely-low-effort ways that the dating apps set up modern dating. I need someone who will do more than just swipe right. Plus, I need to know more about you before going on a date than just 500 characters.
“Ariel, why are you making me jump through all these hoops?”
If this isn’t your cup of tea, then that’s fine. But I’m going to answer all the questions that I ask, so we’re on equal footing here.
What I am looking for:
You are:
Athletic
Ambitious
Sexually adventurous
Warm
Emotionally available
Financially stable
Cognitively intelligent
Different
Humble
Gentle
Funny
Left-leaning, politically
Knowledgeable about how to argue in healthy ways
Alright! So I would love to know more about you. Instead of sending a DM in Instagram (which has word count limits) you now have unlimited space.
Send me an email (and a picture of yourself) at arielslick at gmail dot com and tell me:
What does a healthy relationship look like to you?
How do you express your emotions in healthy, constructive ways?
Tell me about yourself. Age? Politics? Hobbies, etc. What is your education level and current job?
What’s your life goal? What’s your heart-dream, the one that keeps you up at night?
Do you have children, and do you want them? (If you do, I am probably not the best fit.)
What is your love language? What is your attachment style?
What do I need to know about you to date you?
My answers:
I’m a big believer in John Gottman’s The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work. If you haven’t read that book, I highly recommend it. To me, a healthy relationship is defined by mutual respect, trust, attraction, and willingness to make repairs during conflict.
Emotions: I journal, visit my therapist once a month or two, run, talk to my friends, and occasionally punch a punching bag.
Education level: I have a master’s in library science and current job is freelance writing. A few of my hobbies: I sew clothes for fun, I love running (I will run 6 miles on average 3-4x per week), and I have three cats, who I love dearly. In my spare time, I love taking hikes, going to the movies, going to concerts, art museums, and I love love love dancing. Two-step, tango, booty-shaking dance, you name it. I also love to travel. I have been to fourteen countries, (I even lived in the Dominican Republic for three years) and I plan on going to Iceland in September. I’m pretty into fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I would like to eat apples at 105 and still be sharp enough to write poetry.
I am currently building my career as a novelist, and my main goal is to make my own income through my published books. I have published two on my own and one is about to be released through a brick-and-mortar publisher. I’m not yet at the financial point I want to be with it (I must rely on other income), but that’s my life’s dream. I want someday to buy my own house with my royalties. And visit as many National Parks and countries as possible.
Children: I am deeply uncertain about having children at this point. I’m 35 and I can’t really imaging giving life birth at say, 37 or 38. Adoption may be a choice down the road, but definitely not any time soon. If you know you want a traditional family, think hard before reaching out.
How I receive love: I’m big on physical touch and quality time (please come lay on top of me and squish the soul right out my body). I tend to do acts of service in giving affection. I have a secure attachment style, but I do lean anxious. I need someone who has a secure attachment style and has done the work in therapy to know what that is.
What you need to know to date me: I tend to be very stubborn, which can also be determined. I don’t give up easily. I tend to focus on the details, which makes me excellent at my job, but can sometimes come off as nagging if I’m not careful. Therefore, someone who can see “the big picture” balances me out.
